This record is well worth a good hard listen.  I think you will really enjoy it and find many shining moments. What makes this a valuable CD for me is the fact that the Americana/Roots/Country/Picking Music or whatever that's called sounds so good with fresh ideas, killer musicians and great songs.  The first varmint cd is loaded with these elements.  If one of those factors is missing, a record can only be so good, and you can only listen to it for so long before it wears thin and you actually forget what you are listening to.  It's so great to get a CD like this that you can play over and over.  It makes me feel good that folks are making great music.

Wayne has done such a cool job in the vision of this work.  He is my vote for one of the truly great musicians of our time.  His scope is broad, and he does everything with the touch of a master.  From his string quartets, orchestral works, groove laden band stuff, and now this, an American country based CD. I'm so happy about this because it can be difficult to find music in this form with a fresh vision.  The varied backgrounds of the component musicians help supply this.  Killer musicians all in the truest sense of the word, the common thread that binds them is a love of this type of music.  They are coming at this repertoire from a slightly different place, and this produces a highly enjoyable result.  Instead of putting on a thrift store cowboy outfits, these guys just play their asses off.  I prefer that approach.

They play very well together as a band, and it's really cool the way the singing chores are passed around. Everybody vocally represented here is a great singer.  Not only technically but they collectively have the ability to communicate the meaning of the poetry.  That's a tough balance, and oh so enjoyable when it is struck.

For the physically oriented, it's a very nice recording and the package is very well conceived too.  It's nice to see a cd with a good cover and cool art.

My mom would like this music and she's an 82 year old farm girl from Texas that grew up listening to the Grand Ol' Opry on a radio powered by a car battery.
